Hey

The guys who built the MakerBot are the Co-Founders of NYC Resistor, a well known private New York Hackerspace. We plan to get the tools to build these in the future once we fully ramp up our build nights.

I do know that Metrix:CreateSpace in Seattle builds their own version of this device if you're looking for a closer/cheaper supplier ($750 USD is pretty expensive!)

The thing I like most about the MakerBot is the ability to add a Frostruder. It makes it fun for parties. :)

We've also had a reprap in the space as well. (http://www.reprap.org). Zach Hoken, one of the co-founders of MakerBot has also developed much of the hardware for this as well.
