Greetings,

Perhaps they are planning to spin it like this: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2009-09-28-securing-internet_N.htm

Paraphrase: "Hackers jeopardizing the safety of the internet, a system we all depend on for more than just finances and business" (etc) and "Should the government take over the internet during a hacking crisis? How dangerous are these 'hackers'?" ...that sort of spin.

Be careful... they are master editors. Ask those who've dealt with them before. They have a reputation for spins (don't they all).

Also note, they are not nearly as important as your existing readers (and associates) on the global (and local) internet as "29% of the public trusts the media" (ouch! Yes, only 29%... TV and newspapers are dead) http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/14/business/media/14survey.html?_r=2

Why play their game? Beat them using your OWN. Just my two-links worth.

Appono astos.

Eternal individual family independence, personal sovereignty, and perpetual vigilance in honourable absolution, always and forever.
The Independent Rebel Reptoid.
Too honest and controversial for most to take.
~~~~]xxx[:>~
Peace through Knowledge Compassion & Vigilance. ~ John Rhodes ~
My PGP key and other security info: http://www.1111webdesign.com/pgpkeyreptoid
-----------------------------------------
> Date: Tue, 29 Sep 2009 22:01:43 -0700
> From: gdmitchell@shaw.ca
> To: vanhackspace@lists.uselessdegree.net
> Subject: [Vanhackspace] CBC - The Current - hackers at work
>
> Hi, folks,
>
> I haven't participated a whole lot in VHS save for the first couple of
> meetings where things were being set up - mostly lack of time nowdays -
> but I've been lurking on the mailing list since then. Just thought I'd
> pass along a message from a neighbor of a friend who's with the CBC and
> is looking for stuff to add to an upcoming story on The Current (morning
> radio show on CBC Radio One) re: hackers at work (i.e., in the
> workplace). The examples given don't seem to demonstrate much in the way
> of technical knowhow but I imagine she'd be interested in more technical
> stuff (at least of the variety that can be reduced into layman's terms)
> as well. Anyway, here's her message:
>
> ---
>
> So The Current, a big time national show here at the CBC, is doing a
> story on cyber hackers or cyber gurus at work. People who have the best
> intentions and are really computer savvy and find ways to work around
> some impossible situations set up by the company.
>
> They get through firewalls in the name of efficiency.
>
> There's an example of a women who was frustrated with never being able
> to get her crew into courses. she found an online version and gave the
> course herself and certified them herself.
>
> Another guy was frustrated with the performance management objectives
> set out for him, so he found another way to set goals by researching
> online and send those to management. after being scoffed they ended up
> adopting the alternative system.
>
> Do you know anyone who's done stuff like this? Who work in an impossible
> machine but figure out ways to get stuff down outside the system of the
> machine?
>
> Let me know either way.
> Cheers
> T
>
> Theresa Lalonde
> Online and Interactive Reporter
> CBC Vancouver
> 604-662-6455 o
> 778-839-5520 c
>
> facebook = Theresa LalondeWork
> twitter = @lalondetcbc
>
> ---
>
> Cheers,
>
> Graham
> _______________________________________________
> Vanhackspace mailing list
> Vanhackspace@lists.uselessdegree.net
> http://lists.uselessdegree.net/listinfo.cgi/vanhackspace-uselessdegree.net
Internet Explorer 8 makes surfing easier. Get it now!
