I sent them a message to ask about the status of the port blocking issue.
I've been reading forum messages going from January until now complaining
about the issue. I just received a reply from their customer service which
said:
>The reason we block ports is to protect the security and stability of the
network.
>As our customers request a particular port to be unblocked, we assess the
impact that this will have on our customers and on our network.
So my understanding at this point is they're whitelisting ports on a
case-by-case basis if they have enough customers complain about a particular
port/app not working. This doesn't resolve any issues with apps that assign
random ports from a range.
Tied to this is that I don't believe they provide an IP address to a phone
connected to the data network. So you can SSH out but you can't SSH in. Not
sure if this is common amongst providers.
That's as much as I've been able to glean from my wanderings.
