*CURRENTLY HIRING*
Free Geek http://freegeekvancouver.org is an environmentally-conscious,
non-profit community technology centre. We have an immediate opening for a
Warehouse/Recycling Coordinator. Training will be paid and provided
on-the-job.
This position is part of a worker collective in a consensus-based
organisation. All full-time staff at Free Geek receive the same wage,
regardless of position or seniority. Current salary is $24,000 per year,
averaging about 36 hours per week, no more than 40. An excellent benefits
package will be provided after 3 month trial period. The position comes with
three weeks of paid vacation time per year, as well as one additional week
off at the end of December (all staff are paid for this if yearly financial
targets have been met). Operational hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-6pm.
Free Geek is an affirmative action employer; please note however that the
Free Geek facility is not yet wheelchair accessible.

Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and retain appropriate volunteers for production areas
(Build, Laptops, Macs, Advanced Testing, Printer reuse)
- Create, update, and/or refine documentation in all production areas
- Create new testing procedures to explore new hardware avenues
- Locate and prepare items for the Thrift Store
- Coordinate with other members of the Production team, including helping
to shape the long-term goals for Production
- Work floor shifts coordinating volunteers
- Participate in collective management structure
- Take on tasks and committees unrelated to Production coordination
- Attend staff and production meetings, and other meetings as necessary
- Live up to Collective Level Expectations
Required skills:
- Experience managing volunteers
- Demonstrated documentation skills
- Work well under stress in an unusual setting, maintaining a positive
attitude even in the face of adversity
- Self-motivation
- Friendly, outgoing personality
- Patient and courteous with the public
- Likes working with people
- Good organizational skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work in an informal, friendly environment with a diverse staff
- Ability to work and communicate well in a collectively-run organization
- Ability to work in a consensus decision making process related to staff
and policy issues
- Not afraid to ask questions, but able to work on projects almost
entirely without supervision
- Able to remain flexible as Free Geek grows and changes

- Experience in a distribution warehouse context
- Ability to recognise valuable computer hardware (e.g. in demand,
unique, vintage)
- Current occupational first aid certificate
- Interest in free and open source software
- Experience training others
- Consensus experience; experience in non-hierarchical organisations
- Interest in environmental issues related to electronic waste
- Familiarity with Free Geek's mandate, documentation and current
programs
- Volunteering experience at Free Geek

The ideal candidate will be able to work well under stress in a somewhat
chaotic setting, and maintain a positive attitude. You won't be afraid to
ask questions but will be able to upkeep your responsibilities almost
entirely without supervision. You will be able to remain flexible as Free
Geek grows and changes.
