[Vanhackspace] card reader and ac

hi all!
just wondering if people would care to play one of the next meetings
with magnet card readers.
i had the last few nights some excitement getting the arduino to spit
out raw strobes and bits from differnt cards and i would like to share
this. the reader itself is only supposed to read track 1 and 2, but we
could hack one to read track 3 as well. it looks like the tracks are
symetrical, and the decoder ics
http://stripesnoop.sourceforge.net/devel/magtek6516.pdf shouldn't care
if they read track 2 and 3 instead.
i could bring 4 more plus the one thats already in the space. the
reader is a magtek 21045011
http://www.magtek.com/documentation/public/99831083-5.03.pdf .
we are doing already some private hacking with different platforms, i
just use an arduino, cause i have one. levels are cmos/ttl compatible.
so i guess you can hook it up to whatever you want :)
anyways , i'm sure somebody can code in a few minutes what we came up
with in the last days and somebody else never touched a bare reader...
either way, i'm gonna let some float around for people to play with.
...
also, i remember somebody talking about remotely turning on the ac
some time before the meeting starts. ... it actually has a remote
control, it's infrared, totally forgot about it. but it's kind of puny
(thats why its always gone) . we could either rip it apart and hook it
up, or which probably would be more educational, reading out the
singal and replicating it... the remote has a fairly big display, i'm
not sure if it is just decoration or if there might be the possibility
of data getting fed back from the ac? (always lost it before i got a
chance to put batteries in it...) summer is almost over, but there
will be another one, they say... :)
happy hacking
gregor
