Fun night until we realized the OS X Vidalia installer was broken...

A couple installs and emails later, finally figured out the problem.   
looks like the OSX installer has been broken since at least 9.01.09  
ticket #512

The Installer has a messed up conf file. The fix:

  change your /Library/Vidalia/vidalia.conf file from:

ProxyExecutableArguments=-c, /Applications/Vidalia.app/Contents/ 
Resources/polipo.conf

to:

ProxyExecutableArguments=-c \
/Applications/Vidalia.app/Contents/Resources/polipo.conf
