[Vanhackspace] Call-out for interest in a hacker(ish) conference in the springtime

Hey all,
I have been throwing around the idea of a hacker con-like conference in
Vancouver for a few years and have started to bounce it around the IRC
channel for the past few months and I've decided to go ahead and see if
we can drum up some formal interest in it and potentially get the ball
rolling.
The reason why I am beating the bush around the term "hacker" is I want
to see what sort of focus we want. Here are some of things I want to
bring up at the meeting and I invite anybody else to think about them or
come up with others as well:
- How can this benefit VHS and the hacker community in the region?
- If we go ahead with this, how and who should we market this to?
- Where should we host it? When? Should it be at 45 West?
- Should we have guests? What sort of talks are we looking for? How many
tracks?
- Should we incorporate a Makerfaire-type event?
- Most importantly, what should it be called? "VanHack"? "HackYou"?
"ThisIsAHack"?
The day I would like to host the meeting would be Sunday, October 25th
at around 2 PM at the space itself. I can reschedule this of course, but
this seems like a logically good time to me.
Feel free to forward this to other MLs.
Thanks!
Colin
