I'm a geek in training:)  It's funny, I ask a question and don't really understand the language in the answers. LOL .
Would there be a small enough light source, I want to make hair out of them, or maybe i should go with fiber optics then.

Those aren't lights. They are light *guides*. Much like waveguides for
RF frequencies. Think of them as fat fibre optic cables. 

You still need a light source somewhere, but you can have a lot of
distance between the source and the radiant exit point.
