As far as recommendations, it's been said already, but you can't go
wrong with a Weller. I've just got a basic analog adjustable one.
Having the adjustable temp control is handy for a couple of reasons.
It doesn't get stupid hot if you're soldering for a few hours, and you
can get the temperature in that sweet spot which makes working so much
easier.
