The people upstairs are possibly interested in some form of security
system, which dovetails to some degree with a VHS is-someone-home
marker. Obvious questions abound re: privacy. I have an el-cheapo
webcam that I could donate. Thoughts?

Some great ideas. I am okay with rat traps.
The dudes at vanhackspace might be interested if approached about
helping to install a security camera system.
If nothing else it could be a cheap computer camera sticking out their
window looking downwards to the main door in the alley connected to
their server, that might be made available to the net.
Sorry if too techy, just dreaming up some ideas.
