Figure that I'd forward it. We don't write proprietary code as VHS, so
if we wanted to, we could throw $100 at this.

Bill McGrath sent this notice the main VanLUG email list so I'm
forwarding it to the announce list on his behalf.

Hi folks,

For a number of months now I've been working for Vanlug and
Free Geek on a lecture by Richard Stallman in Vancouver. The
UBC Faculty of Law and Vancouver Institute will also be hosting
lectures by Richard. We will be collaborating for publicity
purposes calling the three lectures a lecture series, tentatively
"Ethics, Rights and Freedoms".

Richard no longer works with Lugs of any kind directly, so
Vanlug will be involved only at arms length. We shall
participate as individuals and support the event financially
but not be mentioned as sponsors or in the publicity.

The topic of our speech is "Copyright vs Community in the Age
of Computer Networks". UBC Law is hosting "Free Software in
Ethics and Practice" at noon on Friday. And the Vancouver
Institute is hosting "Copyright vs Community" on Saturday
night at UBC.

Our location will be at BCIT SW5. It seats 350.
Date is Friday, February 6, 2009.
Admission will be by donation.

BCIT will host the event.

Sponsors for the event will be SFU, Free Geek, and
Vancouver Fair Copyright Coalition.

Co-sponsors will be welcome. But no one who is writing
proprietary code will be permitted to co-sponsor the event.
Richard's rules. No discussion on that point. Student
societies and academic departments will be free. Individuals
and companies will be charged $100 each. If a company wishes
to contribute more that would be appreciated to help defray
expenses, but I would rather keep the threshold low.

We will be doing a handout for the event. Sponsors will
receive a write up in the brochure. We will list co-sponsors
on a contributors and supporters page.

Publicity will consist of press releases, media interviews,
posters, the brochure and FSF contact cards.

We will also be staffing two tables for books and FSF
merchandise.

Refreshments may be provided but that will depend on how much
financial support we get.

We will be having a little discussion following the Vanlug
meeting at BCIT this evening. If you want to help out please
attend.

   b.
