Hey
Remember that space I blew off? Well, I called them back and Jeff and I
looked at it. It's almost perfect. It's 2000 Square Feet, and it's
customizable for what we want to do with it. It doesn't have a kitchen,
or a shower, but we could build that in. It also has some temporary
storage walls built into it, but we can knock them down and use the
material for something else.
Basically, the deal is that we can take over the lease of the space from
the guy if we decide to take it. The current rent is $1395/month and it
includes everything.
There are some serious downsides, like the Bathroom needing to be
cleaned, and a shower to be added at a later point. However, it's in a
central location, and we would have 24/7 access, and we would be able to
bring some equipment through the loading bay. (Sorry, we can't drive a
car into it, but it does have a front and a back door.)
I have a couple of pictures, but they really don't do the space justice.
The guy who we'd be taking over the lease from had put up temporary
walls to use the space as storage. We would be getting the material.
We still have to meet with the landlord (and get the paperwork through
Victoria to incorporate officially so we can own the thing), but we
should be good.
If we could meet later this week to jump on this deal, that would be great.
Here's the summary:
Pros:
* 2000 Square Feet
* 24/7 AccessPlease let me know if you can meet later this week to
* Two Enterances, Front and Back
* Ability to modify the space (Add, Remove walls, Add a Security System.
Add offices, Paint!)
* Very close to public transit (Broadway and Commerical Drive Skytrain)
* Space for small CNC machines
* Windows along the north wall for ventilation
* Lease includes utilities
Cons:
* Bathroom needs cleaning and plumbing work (Bathroom is really run down)
* No known roof access
Lease Details:
* Either new lease from landlord, or we take over the current tenant's
yearly lease
* Lease is yearly
If anyone was around for FreeGeek 1.0, it's very much this type of
place, except that we can customize it more. I highly recommend that we
jump on this, since this is probably our best bet at getting our own
space and getting established quickly. The space is awesome!!!!!
Please let me know if you can meet on Thursday. We may or may not be
able to get the Hackery for a meeting, so we might have to get another
venue. (David, can you let us know if it's free?) We can really have
VHS take off if we get this space, and if it doesn't work out, we can
let it go after six months.
If anyone has any questions, please let me know.
Thanks
Joe
