This company builds a tower to provide cell service, symbolically the 
coolest thing would be to build a counter-tower that eats up the signal.

-Use a denial of service type attack. Have a computer or two generating 
requests for attention from the tower at a higher rate than it can 
handle. They don't necessarily have to trigger a connection, they just 
have to say "look at me!" repeatedly. A cell tower jammer, as opposed to 
a cell phone jammer.

-Mount a large art piece on the tower, which has a clear artistic goal, 
but also generates huge amounts of electromagnetic static, like some 
kind of tesla coil. (Also, only turn it on in bursts every ten seconds 
or so, to conserve money on the energy bill).

If it's more feasible, they could also be mounted on many smaller towers 
around the playa, which is sort of symbolic of city defenses, posting 
sentries to protect against the attackers.
