If we have some breadboards, we can walk through a blinky led setup ala 
knight rider
 http://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/Loop
we'd need (per participant)
6 red LEDs
6 resistors, 220Ohm

to get folks familiar with the arduino programming environment.
